Chapter Six

As Troy got in the car with his boys, Rain’s words rang in his ears. He looked around the car; they were all quiet and trying not to make eye contact with him. Troy’s temper was legendary, and none of them wanted any part of it. Troy knew if they were that quiet, that they must have heard Rain dismiss him like a little boy who shouldn’t have been thinking about trying to get with her, and shouldn’t try again. That made matters worse.

What he should have done was pull his gun and shot her. Or, at the very least, waited until she relaxed and then shot her. Nobody, especially a woman, could disrespect him like that. If Rain were a man, he wouldn’t have just walked out of there with his tail between his legs. If Rain were a man, he would have pulled and started blasting. Fuck who she got with her, he thought.

Now he was going to have to kill Rain. He couldn’t let this stand. Troy wasn’t about to let word get around that he let a woman, even one like Rain Robinson, punk him like that in public.

Wasn’t happening.

All he had to do now was convince Rico that killing Rain was in their best interest. But Troy knew that even if Rico didn’t agree with it, that he was going to do it anyway. Him and Rico came up together and he respected Rico. But Troy also knew that sometimes Rico couldn’t see the big picture, and he would have to make him see it. Convincing him that killing Rain was the right move wouldn’t be easy, especially since it wasn’t.

Killing Rain would force Nick Simmons to retaliate and may even bring Mike Black’s entire organization down on them, and Troy knew that. So the question was; was he really ready to do that? Did he really think Rico’s people could outfight Black if it came down to that? Truth was, where Rico couldn’t see the big picture, Troy could see it clearly. To him, taking on Black, if it was done right, was the right move. But you have to kill Black, Bobby, Nick, and of course, Rain, very early or it wouldn’t work.

Troy considered the benefits of going against them. They could not only expand their drug operations, but also make a move into gambling and prostitution. That was a big picture move. And yes, he was ready for it; and yes, he did think that Rico’s people could outfight Black.

When Troy arrived at Rico’s apartment and went inside, he found Rico seated in the living room with Ant and Bolt. Rico’s woman, Arianna; Ant’s woman, Tammy; and Bolt’s woman, Nica, were in the kitchen talking among themselves.

In the living room, the topic of discussion was Leon and what to do about him. Rico’s shoot-on-sight order was only good if you had a target to shoot at. Leon rarely left his house and when he did, he was well protected; and the few places that he did go were easy to defend.
